One of this week’s featured pets up for adoption at the Erath County Humane Society is Chopper, a five-year-old male that was adopted as a puppy in 2020 and returned two years later through no fault of his own.
“Chopper has been with us for three years - three long years of watching other dogs come and go while he patiently waits for his turn,” ECHS executive director Serena Wright told Beneath the Surface News.
“Chopper is the kind of dog who just wants to be someone's best friend and has continued to show us what a loyal, affectionate and goofy companion he can be.”
Chopper is house and crate-trained and loves being part of everyday activities like riding in a car with the windows down, going for a long walk or relaxing beside you on the couch.
He knows basic commands and is always ready to earn extra treats by using his manners.
“While he can be a bit protective in his kennel and needs slow introductions to new people, once he's out, his true personality shines,” Serena said.
“Chopper is all heart; he loves to give big hugs and will happily jump up to share his affection.”
Chopper would do best as the only pet in the home, where he can soak up all the love and attention he deserves.
He is neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped and heartworm negative.

Marcie is a seven-month-old kitten that was found as a stray and never claimed.
“Despite her rough start, she hasn't let that dim her loving spirit,” Serena said.
“This affectionate girl adores attention and will gently reach out with her paw to ask for more pets - it's her way of saying, ‘Don't stop loving me.’”
Marcie enjoys being around people and will make a wonderful companion for anyone looking for a cuddly, loyal friend to share their days with.
She's litter box trained, spayed and partially vaccinated.
