Tanglewood Pharmacy in Stephenville is gearing up for a change next year that will impact many of its customers.
Beginning Jan. 1, the pharmacy will no longer accept plans managed by Express Scripts PBM (pharmacy benefit manager).
Tanglewood’s business manager Courtney Bowen told Beneath the Surface News that Express Scripts has been cutting the pharmacy’s reimbursements for the past couple of years.
“What people don’t understand is that insurance companies tack on additional fees on prescriptions to make more money off the consumer,” Courtney said.
“Express Scripts doesn’t even pay us for what we pay for the medication, so we are sending the medications out at a loss.”
The change will impact many of Tanglewood’s longtime, local patients including state, school and Tarleton State University employees.
Uninsured patients or those with Express Scripts insurance can sign up for Tanglewood’s loyalty program to help lower the cost of prescription medications.
“The loyalty program is something our management team developed based on what we pay for the medication,” Courtney said. “It’s the bottom dollar that a patient will generally pay for a prescription.”
Enrolling is easy.
Simply stop by the pharmacy and speak to a member of the staff.

The price of motorcycle insurance can vary significantly depending on a rider's experience, age, and location. Younger or less experienced riders often face higher premiums because insurance companies perceive them as higher-risk clients. Similarly, urban areas with heavy traffic tend to result in more expensive insurance rates compared to rural areas where accidents and theft are statistically less frequent. Understanding how insurance cost for motorcycles impacts pricing can help riders make informed decisions when shopping for coverage.
That's disappointing news about Tanglewood Pharmacy dropping Express Scripts. As someone juggling CPI instructor certification and healthcare needs, changes like this add stress. I hope alternative pharmacies will step up with better support and flexibility. Thanks for the heads-up—planning ahead now feels more important than ever.
Pharmacies have become vital healthcare hubs, offering more than just medication dispensing. Today’s pharmacies provide services like immunizations, health screenings, and medication counseling, enhancing patient convenience and care. With the rise of online and mail-order options, companies like Express Scripts streamline prescription management. Patients seeking assistance can easily access help through the Express Scripts phone number, ensuring 24/7 support. As healthcare demands grow, pharmacies continue adapting to meet patient needs, blending technology with personalized service for better outcomes and improved access to essential medications.
That’s disappointing news from Tanglewood Pharmacy. Dropping Express Scripts will definitely affect a lot of us. I hope they consider the impact on loyal customers. Maybe they’ll shift focus to other services like Life Insurance leads, but this move feels sudden and inconvenient.
