Tanglewood Pharmacy announces that it will no longer accept Express Scripts insurance beginning Jan. 1.

Tanglewood Pharmacy in Stephenville is gearing up for a change next year that will impact many of its customers.

Beginning Jan. 1, the pharmacy will no longer accept plans managed by Express Scripts PBM (pharmacy benefit manager).

Tanglewood’s business manager Courtney Bowen told Beneath the Surface News that Express Scripts has been cutting the pharmacy’s reimbursements for the past couple of years.

“What people don’t understand is that insurance companies tack on additional fees on prescriptions to make more money off the consumer,” Courtney said.

“Express Scripts doesn’t even pay us for what we pay for the medication, so we are sending the medications out at a loss.”

The change will impact many of Tanglewood’s longtime, local patients including state, school and Tarleton State University employees.

Uninsured patients or those with Express Scripts insurance can sign up for Tanglewood’s loyalty program to help lower the cost of prescription medications.

“The loyalty program is something our management team developed based on what we pay for the medication,” Courtney said. “It’s the bottom dollar that a patient will generally pay for a prescription.”
