The Stephenville Police Department made its first DWI arrest of the year less than two hours into 2021.
“The first arrest was made at 1:45 a.m. on January 1,” Lt. James Gresham told Beneath the Surface News. “There was a total of five over the holiday weekend, including one arrest involving two child passengers.”
In that case, Gresham said an officer observed a man violating traffic laws in the downtown area on Jan. 2.
He was arrested on scene for DWI and the two child passengers – ages nine and 12 – were released to their mother.
Because children were involved, the charge is enhanced to a felony.
“There were certainly more arrests than we would like during a holiday weekend, especially one with inclement weather and horrible road conditions,” Gresham said.
