Former IT director back in custody after new allegations of sexual abuse emerge.
Matthew Thompson, the former IT director at Huckabay ISD, was taken back into custody on Friday, Oct. 16, after authorities received additional information about his relationship with a student.
Thompson was first arrested in January and charged with child grooming and sexual performance by a child.

After posting bond, Thompson was released from the Erath County Jail, but was taken back into custody last week.
According to the arrest affidavit obtained by Beneath the Surface News, the child victim – only 13 years old at the time of the alleged offense – was reinterviewed by authorities in preparation for trial when more serious details emerged.
“Based upon newly discovered information, (child victim) was forensically interviewed on October 16, 2026.
“During the forensic interview, (victim) informed the interviewer that she and Matthew William Thompson began speaking on or about October 10, 2025, during the Fall Festival at Huckabay ISD.
"Their correspondence continued through different means.”
The complaint goes on to state that the child admitted to kissing Thompson in his "back office” and engaging in sexual intercourse numerous times.
Thompson has now been charged with continuous sexual abuse of a young child, a first degree felony, and is being held at the Erath County Jail without bond.

This is a disturbing story, and it’s hard to read about someone in a position of trust facing such serious allegations. I remember a college course on ethics in technology that emphasized how power can be misused, and it stuck with me.
