Erath County grand jury indicts alleged shooter who targeted registered sex offenders.
An Erath County grand jury on Friday indicted a man accused of shooting a registered sex offender and targeting two others.
Charles Austin Broyles, 30, was indicted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
He is accused of going to a home in the 300 block of Morgan Mill Road in Erath County on the night of Dec. 3, 2023 and shooting a registered sex offender in the face, Captain Jeremy Lanier with the Stephenville Police Department told Beneath the Surface News after the incident.
According to the arrest affidavit, Broyles was targeting registered sex offenders living in Erath County, accessing the list of names and addresses from the public sex offender website.
Broyles was arrested the following day after investigators learned that he had gone to the homes of two other registered sex offenders living in the area, but left when they didn’t answer the door.
The man Broyles shot survived and is reportedly still recovering.
If convicted, Broyles faces two to 20 years in prison.
