Gracie Yates, the woman accused of crashing a pickup into a home in Stephenville and killing a mother and her young son, is back in the Erath County Jail and facing more serious charges.

She was re-arrested on Monday, May 11, and charged with intoxication manslaughter (death of two people), a first degree felony, and injury to a child, a state jail felony.

Her bail has been set $1,514,500.

The 18-year-old was initially charged with criminally negligent homicide.

The arrest warrant, obtained by Beneath the Surface News, describes Yates’ state when police arrived at a home in the 200 block of N. Ollie Street in Stephenville about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, March 22.

Barbara Rocha, 49, and her seven-year-old son Alex, were asleep inside their home when the crash occurred.

“Upon speaking to the defendant, officer observed blood shot/glassy eyes, extreme slurred speech, and a strong odor of alcohol emitting from her person,” the report states.

Yates initially told police that she was not driving, but later admitted that she was.

The new arrest warrant states that Yates had a blood alcohol level of 0.233.

Yates is originally from Santa Anna and was reportedly in Stephenville visiting a friend when the tragedy occurred.

A gofundme account to help the victims’ family has raised more than $80,000.
