An Erath County grand jury on Thursday heard evidence involving an officer-related shooting that resulted in the death of a Stephenville man in July.

Erath County District Attorney Alan Nash gave the following statement to Beneath the Surface News:

“Today, the facts and evidence relating to the JuIy 21, 2026 law enforcement use of force on Parkwood Court in Stephenville were presented to the grand jury.

“Texas Ranger B.J. Hill presented investigatory findings and evidence relating to the actions of peace officers of the Stephenville Police Department, Erath County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Public Safety following dispatch to a residence for a person in distress, and subsequent calls for assistance by first responding officers.

“The grand jury determined that no indictments should issue. I concur with the determination of the grand jury, and it is my opinion that the use of deadly force by law enforcement officers was lawful, justified and appropriate.

“Law enforcement deployed force only when the distressed person exited his home and advanced on officers while pointing a firearm in the direction of officers."
