Woman dies on side of the road after running out of gas and refusing help.

A heartbreaking case of a 40-year-old woman who died on the side of an Erath County highway on Thursday is under investigation.
Tye Box, chief deputy with the Erath County Sheriff’s Office, told Beneath the Surface News that the woman reportedly ran out of gas on US Hwy. 281, near County Road 407 early Thursday afternoon.
“It was first noticed by a DPS trooper who stopped and offered assistance, but she refused,” Box said.
“The trooper ran her license and found that she was a missing person from the Metroplex. He notified her family who said they were on their way to pick her up.”
While the woman waited for her family, several troopers and Erath County deputies stopped to offer more assistance, but she continued to refuse, Box said.
Shortly after the family arrived, the sheriff’s office received a 911 call that CPR was in progress.
“We responded along with EMS, but by the time we arrived on scene, she was deceased,” Box said.
It is unclear if the woman succumbed to the heat or if she had underlying health issues.
The high temperature on Thursday reached 104 degrees.
An autopsy has been ordered and the case is under investigation.
