Stephenville resident Lexi Nelms is running for angels.

Literally.

The 20-year-old is running in the Dallas Marathon on Dec. 14 and is raising money for H.O.P.E.’s angel trees.

“My parents have always adopted a bunch of angels during Christmas, so it was always near and dear to my heart,” Lexi told Beneath the Surface News.

“When I was little, we adopted an angel from a nursing home and I got to hand deliver the present to the patient. I sat with her and we talked for three hours; it really touched me.

“The holiday season is really hard for a lot of people and I wanted to run for more than myself, so I reached out to several local organizations and decided that I would give the money I raised to H.O.P.E. because of their outreach.”

Lexi grew up in Stephenville and graduated from Stephenville High School in 2024.

Today, she is studying nursing at Tarleton State University.

Lexi set a goal of raising $1,000 and has already surpassed that, but she’s not stopping.

“The more I raise, the more angels I can help,” she said.

You can join the effort through her “Running for Angels” Facebook page by sponsoring a mile.

The harder the mile, the bigger the impact.
