It was a scary moment for a Morgan Mill family when one of their dogs was recently attacked by a rabid raccoon.
“A raccoon attacked one dog and two others (dogs) came in and killed the raccoon,” Erath County Sheriff Matt Coates told Beneath the Surface News.
The raccoon tested positive for rabies and the Texas Department of Health was notified of the positive rabies exposure in Erath County.
“The dogs have been tested and are being quarantined,” Coates said.
“We want to remind people to keep a close eye on their pets and to have them vaccinated for rabies.
“If anyone suspects that a pet has been exposed to rabies by a wild animal, they should notify the sheriff’s office immediately.”

It also makes me think about how important it is to keep pets vaccinated and to stay cautious around wildlife, even in areas that seem safe. Situations like this remind me that unexpected dangers can happen at any time, which is a sharp contrast to the controlled environments I’m used to—whether in daily routines or even when I’m relaxing with something like smash karts unblocked. I hope the dogs are okay and that the family is able to recover from such a stressful experience.
