KSTV the Mighty 93 has a new tag line - Cowboy 93 KSTV - and new owners ready to take the popular radio station to new heights.
Kenneth and Heidi Witt, owners of Lonestar Broadcasting Group, took over operations on June 1.
They sat down with Beneath the Surface News to talk about their plans for the station and the interesting path that led them to Erath County.
Kenneth graduated from the University of Kentucky, dabbled in politics and worked as an attorney in Kentucky and Tennessee before moving to Midland to become a landman.
He is also a father of four, rancher, plays Bluegrass and is even a former paratrooper.
And if that’s not enough, he also runs two podcasts - Gundog Nation and American Music Backstage.
“About four months ago, I decided that I wanted to do something different, so I started looking for an investment doing something that I would love,” Kenneth said.
Kenneth comes from a family of musicians, so music and radio have always been a big part of his life.
“When I was a kid, my mother managed a radio station and I had my own show when I was 13,” he said.
“And one morning I decided to find a radio station for sale.”
Eventually, he was introduced to Boots Elliott and Bob Haschke and was impressed by the success they had built.
Kenneth and Heidi (who are newlyweds) purchased the radio stations, moved to Gordon and now say they are ready to jump into the community with both feet.
Heidi is originally from Dallas and attended Texas Tech University.
“We are excited to start this new venture together and are thrilled to be in the area,” she said.
Kenneth will host a morning talk show from 7-9 a.m. Monday through Friday.
He plans to tweak the format, highlighting Texas/Red Dirt Country music.
The staff – some of whom have worked for KSTV for two decades – will remain and Boots will continue to broadcast the Yellow Jacket and Honeybee games.
“I love a challenge and adventure and music has always been a big part of my life,” Kenneth said.
“We couldn’t be more excited to be here.”
