Local esthetician Courtney Donegan, owner of Skin Med Spa, talks all things skin care.

Courtney Donegan specializes in skin care and knows her stuff.
I sat down with the owner of Skin Med Spa in Stephenville and toured the recently renovated space that now includes private treatment rooms.
Courtney first opened as a hair salon in 2012, but transitioned into skincare four years ago.
“I had skin problems of my own and tried every product you can imagine,” she told Beneath the Surface News.
“And what I found is that there is lots of misleading marketing out there that was very discouraging. I wasted a lot of time and money on products that didn’t work.”
So, Courtney began taking classes to learn how she could not only help herself, but help others feel better in their own skin.
“Eighty percent of your results are home care, which is why it’s important to use the right products,” Courtney said.
Skin Med Spa carries several lines of high-end, medical grade products like Skinbetter Science, Plated, ColorScience, Epicutis, Hydrinity, Face Reality, DMK and C02 Lift Carboxy.

Q. What is your philosophy on skin care?
Courtney: “Finding that balance between exfoliation and hydration. If you solve that, you will solve most of your skin problems and have glowy, happy, hydrated skin.”
Q. What do you think are the most effective treatments for women over 50?
Courtney: “That depends on what a client is concerned about. We start with a consultation to discuss their skin care concerns and budget and I help them pick a treatment that works for them.
“Everyone’s skin is a lot more receptive when it’s on the right home care.
“But if we are specifically talking about women over 50, I think DMY enzyme therapy is fantastic. It helps skin function like it’s supposed to.”
Q: What skincare advice would you give a 20-year-old?
Courtney: “Wear sunscreen. Colorescience is the best. It’s a mineral sunscreen and very user friendly.”
Q. What is something simple that women can do that would improve their skin?
COURTNEY: “After the age of 30, I think an annual series of microneedling is always good.”
