Lacey gets a foster family. Will this be her forever home?

Lacey

Everyone is worried about Lacey, the three-year-old Catahoula/Cur mix up for adoption at the Erath County Humane Society.

Beneath the Surface News on Monday reported that Lacey has been at the animal shelter since October 2020, making her the longest female resident.

When I reported that Lacey was depressed and seemed to have given up on finding a permanent home, the story blew up with 130 shares and thousands of views.

Today, Lacey is being fostered by a young family that hopes to adopt her.

“The couple stopped by (the animal shelter) for a meet and greet on Monday afternoon,” ECHS executive director Serena Wright said. “They even brought their dog to meet her. Lacey went home with them and they have five days to decide if they want to keep her.”

After the story broke on Monday, Serena said she received dozens of calls and emails from people interested in adopting Lacey.

“She is a fantastic dog and I can’t believe she has been here for so long,” Serena said. “But I have a good feeling about this.”

So do I.

Thanks to everyone who shared the story. Cross your fingers that Lacey finds her forever family.

I’ll keep you posted.
