Stephenville voters elected to keep a longtime city councilman in his place despite a challenge from newcomer Jorge Moreno.
In Saturday’s city election, Gerald Cook won his race to retain place 2 on the Stephenville City Council with 76% (478 votes) to Moreno’s 24% (147 votes).
In the race to fill the unexpired term of place 4 on the Stephenville ISD board of trustees, voters chose Jason Smith.
Smith received 58% (556 votes) while his opponent Dr. Jill McAngus received 42% (396 votes).
"Thank you to everyone who supported this campaign, took the time to vote and helped along the way," Smith told Beneath the Surface News following Saturday's election returns.
"I’m truly grateful for the encouragement, the conversations and the trust you’ve placed in me. This was a team effort, and I appreciate every person who played a part in making it a success.
"I’m ready to serve the district and get to work for our students, teachers and community."
Smith has coached for SPARD and the Stephenville Soccer Association, is a volunteer of the Watch D.O.G.S. program at Central Elementary, chairs the annual Toys “Fore” Kids golf tournament and served on the committee that developed plans for the Art Briles Stadium.
He and his wife Maddie have two kids in the Stephenville ISD school system.
