First Farmers Market of the season happens this weekend in downtown Stephenville.

Stephenville is kicking off its annual series of Farmers Markets this weekend at the downtown plaza and you should make plans to go.

Julie Smith, director of the city’s Main Street Program, said the markets are usually held on the first Saturday of the month between May and October, but cleanup for the movie set of Lawmen: Bass Reeves pushed the event to a week later.

So, the first Farmers Market of the season will be held from 9 a.m. - noon on Saturday, May 13.

“We have a couple of vendors that will be selling fruits and vegetables and we are really excited about that,” Julie told Beneath the Surface News. “There will also be wood working, crocheted items, candles, benches and other artisan goods for sale.

“Our rule is that everything has to be handmade or home grown.”

Don’t let the chance for showers keep you from enjoying the event because the vendors will be completely covered by tents.

“It’s really fun,” Julie said. “People love to come and just mill around on a Saturday afternoon.”
