Remember when the Erath County Courthouse looked like this? Will the weekend storm bring a repeat?

Stock up on firewood and break out the crockpot.

Erath County is expecting its first blast of real winter weather this weekend and I couldn’t be happier.

My favorite weather guy, WFAA’s Pete Delkus, says freezing rain will move into the area on Friday morning before transitioning into sleet and snow Friday night through Sunday.

Pete said the latest European model shows that North Texas could receive up to an inch of ice and several inches of snow, which means it’s time to start making preparations.

A warning from the National Weather Service states that bridges and overpasses will likely become dangerous.

“Significant ice accumulation on power lines and tree limbs may cause power outages. Extreme cold will become life threatening and likely damage unprotected pipes and put livestock at risk,” the NWS states.

The winter storm will also bring dangerously cold temperatures to Erath County with a Saturday high of 26 degrees and a Sunday high of 22.

Meanwhile, it’s time to start making preparations (scroll up to see what Iron Horse Plumbing says we should do).

To keep things cozy, I’ll be making The Husband’s favorite 15 bean soup. (Get the recipe here.)

Winter is coming, friends.

And it’s coming soon.
