The First United Methodist Church of Stephenville raised a whopping $15,000 during its 38th annual baked potato lunch on March 3.

The money will be used to fund local missions like the Tree House After-School Program, Backpack Buddies of Erath County, Love Thy Neighbor Clothes Closet and St. Luke Episcopal Church’s Food Pantry.

Church volunteers washed and baked potatoes, assembled butter/cheese/sour cream packets, heated chili, baked cookies, assembled lunches into containers and delivered them to schools and businesses.

They also served lunches to individuals in the Fellowship Hall.

Lunches not purchased were donated to Foster’s Home for Children, the Stephenville police and fire departments and Tarleton State University.

“Our church is grateful to the community for its continuing support,” Marilyn Jones told Beneath the Surface News.

“And a very special thank you to all the local businesses, schools and individuals who purchased a total of over 1,200 lunches!”

Mark your calendars for the 39th annual baked potato lunch Mission happening on Tuesday, March 2, 2027.
