The filing period for the March 3 Primary Election is over and Erath County Judge Brandon Huckabee will sail into a second term without an opponent.
“It’s been an honor to serve the citizens of Erath County during my first term and help move our county forward in many areas. It has taken partnerships and collaboration from local governments and the public to make that happen and we still have work to do,” Huckabee told Beneath the Surface News.
Other local officials, however, weren’t quite as lucky.
Chili Alexander, Justice of the Peace for precincts, 1, 3 and 4, is facing a challenge from Melissa Ferguson.
And David Martin, Justice of the Peace for precinct 2, is facing a challenge from Dionicia Azua.
Erath County Commissioner of precinct 2 Albert Ray is facing challenges from Dale Spurlen and David Bays.
Others local candidates running unopposed include District Court Judge Jason Cashon, County Court of Law Judge Blake Thompson, District Clerk Wanda Greer, County Clerk Gwinda Jones, County Treasurer Angie Shawver and Commissioner Jim Buck.
Early voting will be held Tuesday, Feb. 16, through Friday, Feb. 27.
