Work begins on new rodeo arena, Fair Grounds galloping in to the Cowboy Capital of the World.

Lights and equipment to construct Erath County’s new rodeo arena were delivered this week to the site that will soon be known as the Fair Grounds.

Cowboy Capital Pro Rodeo Committee member Chad Decker said the setup is scheduled to take place the third week in January.

“It will take about a week to complete,” he said. “Then we will install the light poles. The grandstands are set to go up the first of February.”

The project is the result of a partnership between the Cowboy Capital Pro Rodeo Committee and the city of Stephenville.

“We want this to be a community-based place for rodeos, carnivals and stock shows in a county fair-type setting,” Decker said in a previous interview with Beneath the Surface News.

The Fair Grounds will be built on land owned by the city on Hwy. 67 about five miles east of Hard Eight BBQ.

The plan is to have the Fair Grounds ready in time to host Tarleton State University’s annual rodeo in April.
