Winter storm arrives in Erath County; officials urge caution if venturing out.
Erath County – and much of North Texas – woke up Monday to a winter wonderland.
But aside from venturing outside to make a snowman, Captain Jeremy Lanier with the Stephenville Police Department is urging residents to use caution when hitting the streets.
“Roadways are covered in frozen precipitation, which is likely to remain and become more slick as vehicles compact it, especially on untreated side streets,” Lanier told Beneath the Surface News.
“As always, we would advise caution if people have to leave the house.”
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Erath County through noon on Monday.
But the icy roads could stick around longer. A wind chill advisory with temperatures below freezing expires at noon on Tuesday.
Police Chief Dan Harris said those who have to travel should drive slow and give themselves extra time to get to their destination.
Flights in and out of the DFW Airport are being cancelled or delayed.
