This week’s featured pets up for adoption at the Erath County Humane Society have an incredibly sad story behind them.
Sisters Ethel and Annabelle were dumped in Erath County and spent months on the run before they were finally caught and taken to the shelter.
“These sweet girls are smart, happy and playful – and now that they are safe – they’re ready for a family,” ECHS executive director Serena Wright told Beneath the Surface News.
Both girls have been exposed to livestock and did well.
“They will chase cats, but it seems to be more of a playful chase — a firm swipe from a cat is usually enough to redirect their curiosity elsewhere,” Serena said.
Annabelle and Ethel are very food motivated, which will make training and building trust easier as they adjust.
They are new to leashes and still learning how to walk with them, but are making progress.
Although the sisters are bonded, they do not have to be adopted together.

They are both spayed, fully vaccinated, microchipped and heartworm negative.
Rainbow is a two-year-old female cat.
“She came to us with her kittens and has done a wonderful job being a loving mom,” Serena said. “Now it’s her turn to find a forever home.”

This sweet girl loves attention and starts purring as soon as the door to her kennel opens, but she is happiest just lounging around.
Rainbow is fully vaccinated, spayed, dewormed, litterbox trained and pending a microchip.
“If you’re looking for a calm, affectionate companion who will fill your home with gentle purrs and love, Rainbow is your girl,” Serena said.
