‘This has been a dream of mine.’ Baskett tabbed to lead new mortgage company in Stephenville.

After more than four years as market president of Citizens National Bank, David Baskett has stepped down to lead HomeSoon Lending Team, a new mortgage company in Stephenville.

“Leaving CNB was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done,” Baskett told Beneath the Surface News. “But this has been a dream of mine for 15 years and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity.”

Home Soon is affiliated with Sun West Mortgage Company, which has been in business for more than 40 years.

Baskett is working remotely until his office on Columbia Street is remodeled.

He is also set to open a new office in Brownwood in the next 45 days, then turn his attention to Granbury where he plans to open a third.

“I’m already busy and have several new loans I am working on,” Baskett said. “There are so many loan programs available like down payment assistance that I can now offer customers that traditional banks don’t have.

“We also offer FHA, USDA and VA loans as well as traditional Fannie May and Freddie Mac loans. And another big thing is that we service our own notes and don’t sell them to other banks.”

As Baskett works to get the offices up and running, he is also in the process of hiring loan officers for both locations.

Baskett got into banking in 2004 after moving to Las Vegas, Nevada where he attended banking school then joined a mortgage company similar to the one he is now running.

He returned to his hometown of Stephenville to raise his family and continue a career in the industry.

“I wanted to make sure I could come home to do something that I love and be able to provide for my family,” he said. “This is like a dream come true.”
