Texas sees the highest positivity rate in COVID-19 testing as new local cases keep coming.

Five new cases of COVID-19 were reported to Erath County officials on Monday, according to Stephenville’s health authority Dr. Kelly Doggett.

The new numbers come as Texas records its highest positivity rate since the pandemic began.

“Over the last week, Texas had its highest percent positivity of cases to date,” Dr. Doggett told Beneath the Surface News. “About one out of every five tests was positive.”

The most recent COVID numbers released by Erath County officials on Monday, Aug. 10, reflect cases through Aug. 7.

According to those numbers, there were four new cases diagnosed on Friday, bringing the total number to 435, which includes 62 that are still classified as active and five deaths.

There have also been 20 hospitalizations.

“We've discovered that there are at least three entities that have performed or are performing testing locally and we either don't get those results or we don't get enough detail to allow us to include those in our totals,” Doggett said. “That's why DSHS now has numbers for Erath County higher than our totals.”
