Spring typically brings the most severe thunder and hail to Texas.

The transition from cool to warm weather can create a lot of energy and moisture – and storms.

Use these tips to make sure your insurance is ready:

• Check your home insurance policy to see if it covers wind damage. If not, ask your agent about windstorm insurance.

• Consider comprehensive insurance coverage for your car. It covers damage to your car from flood, hail, fire, and wind.

• Put your agent and insurance company in your phone’s contact list. Make copies of your policy’s declaration page and auto ID card. Email them to yourself so you can get to them away from home.

• Consider flood insurance. Most home insurance doesn’t cover damage from flooding.

Don’t wait long: flood policies usually take effect 30 days after purchase.

Ask your agent about flood insurance.

• Remove dead tree limbs and branches that hang over your house. Tie down outdoor furniture and other items that the wind can pick up.

• Make a room-by-room home inventory with pictures and video. This could help if you file an insurance claim.

Spring storms in Texas can be intense, so it's smart to get ahead of the weather! The Texas Department of Insurance suggests reviewing your home policy to see if you're covered for wind damage—if not, ask about windstorm options. Don't forget that standard policies often exclude flooding, and those plans usually need a 30-day lead time to kick in.

It’s a great time to focus on Personalized Insurance that actually fits your specific property needs. Trim those tree limbs, secure your patio furniture, and document your belongings with a room-by-room video. With Personalized Insurance, you’ll have better peace of mind when the clouds roll in. Stay safe out there!

I really liked these tips from the Texas Department of Insurance because spring storms can hit fast and cause serious damage if you’re not ready. The advice about checking your roof, trimming trees, reviewing coverage, and preparing an emergency kit feels practical and easy to follow. I also think reminding homeowners to document valuables is smart since it can make claims easier later. Staying prepared not only protects your home and family, but it may also help you save on insurance premium costs over time by reducing risks and preventing expensive storm damage.
