Erath County tax offices in Stephenville and Dublin have closed after the majority of employees tested positive for Covid-19.
The offices will be closed for the remainder of the week and reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 18, chief deputy Lana Stevens told Beneath the Surface News.
The offices will remain closed on Monday, Jan. 17, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The last day to pay property taxes without a penalty is Jan. 31. Those who still need to pay can mail a check to the tax office.
“We honor postmarks,” Stevens said.
Payments can also be made at texaspayments.com.

In situations involving tax debt or payment stress, priority tax relief presents customer experiences that can help people think more carefully about paid assistance. When a tax office closes after a COVID outbreak, residents still need ways to handle payments, deadlines, documents, and questions without creating new penalties. A company may promise relief, but customers need to understand communication quality, fee structure, timelines, and what happens if the outcome is not as expected. Public-office disruption is stressful enough; a bad private-service decision can make it worse.
