Tasers and other super sparkly safety stuff to keep our daughters safe.

Updated: Oct 25, 2021

Some people say I’m paranoid.

And when I say “some,” I mean my three children.

Despite the fact that they are all successful adults, I am still plagued with an overwhelming need to be assured of their constant safety, especially when it comes to my 23-year-old daughter Brooke.

I’m not ashamed to say that I still track her whereabouts and would track my sons too, but they won’t let me.

I also kind of insist that she calls me when she arrives inside her apartment after evening outings.

A text won’t work because I need to hear her voice.

I purchased Brooke’s first taser when she was a student at Texas Tech. It was a clever little guy that fit snugly inside her purse and doubled as a flashlight.

But the first sign of any unwanted affection or attempted mugging and – ZAP, ZING, POW – she could have her attacker on the ground in seconds, writhing in pain from jolts of electricity surging through his body.

I like that kind of comfort.

Which is why I had three new tasers shipped directly to her Dallas apartment a few weeks ago; one for her bedroom, one for her purse and one for her car.

You can never be too careful.

So imagine how thrilling it was for me today when I stopped by Venture 19 and discovered a glitzy form of protection made just for girls.

Perched on the checkout counter is a cute display of super sparkly safety stuff like the “Glammer” (an emergency escape hammer for the car), an “Ahh!-larm” (a super loud personal alarm that fits right inside a purse) and a “First-Aid Clutch” (a kit that includes 75 first-aid essentials).

Each glitzy gizmo will set you back a mere $22.95, a pretty cheap price for peace of mind.

If you’re a mother who functions on the far side of safety like I do, stop by Venture 19 and check it out.

And don't forget the taser.
