Stephenville ISD election: 1 candidate in, 1 out and 1 not saying. Then there’s that open seat up for grabs.
Residents will have a lot to decide in May when they head to the polls to vote for members of the Stephenville ISD board of trustees.
Board president Chad Elms, Place 3, is up for another three-year term and has already filed for re-election.
“It has been a tremendous blessing for me to serve our district in Place 3,” Chad told Beneath the Surface News.
“As a board, we have accomplished so many great things and it would be an honor to continue serving our district and community in this capacity.”
Sherrie Evans, who has served in Place 2 for 13 years, has decided to step aside.
“Education has been a major part of my entire life. I have always believed, and still do, that our children are of the highest priority,” she said.
“We owe them the best education they can get and to love and support them.
“After 13 years on the board, it is time to give up the reigns and have someone else step up to lead our children at SISD.”
Board secretary Dr. Robert Barberee, Place 1, is also up for re-election. He said he will announce his decision next week on whether he will seek another term.
Voters will also elect someone to fill the unexpired term of Luke Sims who resigned last year from Place 4.
The deadline to file for a place on the ballot is 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16.
Election Day is Saturday, May 4.
