The Cross Timbers Fine Arts Council proudly announces the official proclamation of “Cowgirl Capital Day,” to be celebrated Sept. 18.
The proclamation was issued by Stephenville’s Mayor Pro Tem David Baskett.
The day recognizes the enduring legacy, strength and contributions of cowgirls to the cultural fabric of Stephenville.
The proclamation will be commemorated with cowgirl art exhibits in Stephenville, as well as the “Art of Cowgirl” VIP luncheon, hosted by CTFAC, featuring guest speaker and Tarleton alum Kelly Riley.
Riley will be honoring two remarkable cowgirls: his mother Mitzi Riley, an accomplished trick and fancy rider, and his grandmother, legendary world champion cowgirl Tad Lucas.
This heartfelt tribute promises unforgettable stories and rich history that celebrate the cowgirl spirit.
The luncheon will be held at the Cross Timbers Legacy Center on Thursday, Sept. 18, with dessert and cordials to follow at CTFAC’s Gallery, located on the Erath County courthouse square.
The exhibit will feature the incredible artwork of cowgirl artists, Audrey Caylor and Andrea Murphy.
Tickets are $75 per person or $750 for a reserved table of eight.
The celebration kicks off a week of festivities leading into the 56th Annual Cowboy Capital of the World PRCA Rodeo.
“Cowgirl Capital Day is more than a title, it’s a tribute to the women who have shaped our western culture, art, traditions and our community spirit,” said CTFAC executive director Christine Newton.
“CTFAC is proud to honor their legacy”.
Other cowgirl art exhibits on display in September include “Boots, Grit and Glory: Works by CTFAC Resident Artists (at the County Annex III) and “Western Whimsy: The Artwork of Sarah Sossaman and Students” (at the Stephenville Public Library).
