Stephenville City Council looks to end its contract with Flock, but don’t expect the cameras to disappear.
The Stephenville City Council is set to potentially end its contract with Flock Group Inc. when it meets at 5:30 p.m. tonight at City Hall, but that doesn’t mean there will be an end to Flock cameras inside the city limits.
That’s because the city doesn’t own them.
Stephenville City Manager Jason King explained to Beneath the Surface News that the city signed a contract with Flock in November 2024, but before the cameras were installed, the state came in and put up their own.
“We entered into a contract (with Flock), but never installed the cameras, and at this point we don’t plan to,” King said.
“Our contract is set to renew in the next 30 days and the council will likely vote tonight to cancel it.”
Oh, and another thing: The city has never paid a penny to the company.
A group of citizens is trying to get the cameras taken down in the city and plan to show up at tonight’s meeting.
It is unclear whether the group understands that the city doesn’t own the Flock cameras.
Last week, Erath County officials voted to renew its contract with Flock.
