Police investigate shooting that leaves young woman critically wounded in Fort Worth hospital.
A woman in her 20s is in critical condition after she was shot in the abdomen on Sunday night.
Erath County Sheriff Matt Coates told Beneath the Surface News that the investigation has been handed over to the Stephenville Police Department because an off-duty deputy was at the scene when the shooting occurred.
The victim and the alleged shooter are both related to the deputy.
“Right now we believe that the shooting was an accident, however, the investigation remains ongoing,” Lt. James Gresham said.
The man who reportedly fired the gun has not been arrested and the victim remains in critical condition at a Fort Worth hospital.
The shooting took place inside a vehicle parked at a residence on Hwy. 6 just north of Dublin where the family had gathered to mourn the loss of another family member earlier that day.
