Grapevine’s Parr Park Rock Art Trail is a place you should soon visit.
On a recent trip to the city to see friends, we took a stroll through the art park and were amazed not only by the sheer number of hand-painted rocks that line the trail, but by the inspiration left in its wake.
Our friends told us that it began during Covid when people started leaving hand-painted messages on rocks at the trail.
It wasn’t long before the movement bloomed and was entered into the Guinness World Records.
A now broken stone at the front of the park’s entrance states: “The largest display of painted stones is 24,459, and was achieved by Ron Olsen and the Chris Penny Family along the Parr Park Rock Art Trail in Grapevine, TX on 9/8/2021. The trail was started to spread joy during the pandemic.”
And that joy has continued.
We walked the path with our friends one beautiful morning a couple of weeks ago and I am still thinking about it.
I could have spent all day examining the rocks and reading their messages.
The rocks have been grouped into categories ranging from favorite sports teams, big cities, countries and animals to Harry Potter and Dr. Seuss-themed art.
The trail ends with an impressive rainbow of rocks that is nothing short of amazing.
If you’re looking for something to do this summer, load up the kids and take a short road trip to Grapevine.
The trail is free and there is lots of shade.
