Big changes are coming to Morgan Mill ISD in the form of a school-wide clear bag policy for the upcoming school year.
A parent of a Morgan Mill student contacted Beneath the Surface News about the new policy after the school district posted on its Facebook page.
In March, school officials had to deal with a young student who allegedly threatened to bring a “sniper rifle” to campus.

It’s unclear if part of the reason behind the clear bag policy has anything to do with that incident.
Beneath the Surface News reached out Morgan Mill ISD Superintendent Wendy Sanders for comment, but has not heard back.
The Facebook post outlines the policy (keep scrolling) and states that it will “increase student and staff safety, allow for quick visual inspections and promote a safe and secure learning environment for everyone on campus.”
“We understand this is a change, and we are sharing early so families have plenty of time to prepare before next school year,” the post states.
ACCEPTABLE BAGS
Clear backpacks made of clear plastic, vinyl or PVC
Small clear accessory bags (no larger than 4.5” x 6.5”)
Clear athletic/activity bags
Lunchboxes and small makeup bags are the only bags that do not have to be clear.
UNACCEPTABLE BAGS
Solid or colored backpacks
Mesh or tinted backpacks
Patterned backpacks
Drawstring bags
Tote bags
Duffel bags that are not clear
Purses and fanny packs
Large accessory bags
Athletic bags must also be clear and will not be permitted in classrooms; they must be stored in designated areas.
The district advises families to search “clear backpack” and “clear duffel bag” on Etsy, Amazon and Walmart for a variety of options.
