Mark McClinton will not seek re-election to the Stephenville City Council; filing deadline nears.

Mark McClinton is now the second member of the Stephenville City Council who will not seek re-election when his term is up in May.

McClinton told Beneath the Surface News that after six years of service, he is stepping aside.

“I’ve enjoyed it and it’s been a blessing, but it’s time for someone else to bring in some fresh ideas,” he said. “In 2018 the voters were clear that they only wanted (two terms) and out of respect for them, I won’t run this election cycle.”

McClinton currently serves as mayor pro tem and holds place 1.

Nick Robinson (place 3) is also stepping aside when his term is up in May, and Daron Trussell has filed to run for the spot.

Ricky Thurman (place 5) and Gerald Cook (place 7) have both filed for re-election and so far, neither is being opposed.

The deadline to file for a place on the May 1 ballot is Friday, Feb 12.
