One of this week’s featured pets up for adoption at the Erath County Humane Society is Chopper, a five-year-old male mixed breed.
“Chopper is a goofy, lovable adventurer with a big heart and even bigger hugs,” ECHS executive director Serena Wright told Beneath the Surface News.
“He was originally adopted from us as a puppy and was returned in 2022 because the family had difficulties adjusting to a new puppy in the home.
“While Chopper may have his quirks, he’s a loyal, sweet companion who thrives with the right person.”
Chopper loves walks, treats and exploring the world.
He’s house and crate-trained and knows basic commands like “sit” and “shake.”
He can be strong on the leash at first, but once he gets going, he settles into a nice rhythm and enjoys the journey.
“Although Chopper shows barrier aggression in his kennel toward new people, don’t let that fool you - once outside, he’s a total love bug who adores attention and isn’t shy about giving his signature hugs,” Serena said.
He’s non-reactive to dogs passing by on walks, but would do best as the only pet in the home.
He doesn’t do well as an outdoor-only dog and will find a way out if left alone for too long.
However, in a home setting with structure and love, Chopper shines.
A foster recently reported that he was calm when left alone indoors and mostly enjoyed lounging around.

“She was brought in as a stray mama with her kitten, and now that her babies are grown, it's her turn to find a forever home,” Serena said.
Gamora is a sweet, gentle soul who absolutely adores attention.
She's a quiet companion most of the time, but will definitely let you know (with some chatty meows!) if she’s feeling lonely.
"She can be a little weary of strangers and prefers to be the only cat in the home - queen of the castle style,” Serena said.
“Once she warms up, though, she’s all about the love. She did great in her foster home with crate time and car rides, and she’s fully vetted - spayed, vaccinated, dewormed and microchipped.
