Help fight food insecurity by working in Stephenville's community garden this weekend.

If you like to get your hands dirty, you’ll have the chance this weekend when Stephenville’s 20th Century Club hosts a community garden workday from 7:30 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Sept. 30.

Individuals and groups are invited to come out and work in the garden located at 1302 Harbin Drive between the First Presbyterian Church and Lacy Funeral Home.

“We will be planting a fall garden, fertilizing and mulching established plants, weeding and making other improvements to the garden,” Kathy Horak Smith told Beneath the Surface News.

And if you go, you’ll even get breakfast.

Parking is available at the church or across the street at Jaycee Park.

The Stephenville Community Garden was organized by the First Presbyterian Church, First Christian Church, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and Stephenville 20th Century Club and has given approximately 250 pounds of fresh produce to six different Erath County food banks since June 2023.

Saturday’s event is part of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs’ National Day of Service to Fight Food Insecurities.
