Farm to table: Terrell Farms selling packages of grassfed beef just in time for Christmas.
If that hard-to-buy-for person on your Christmas list enjoys a good steak or tasty burger, consider giving them a gift from Terrell Farms.
The Stephenville-based farm has been around for more than 90 years, and now raises grassfed calves with no antibiotics or hormones.
"Our calves are raised on nothing but grass, supplemental hay we grow on our ranch, minerals and salt, and a few alfalfa cubes so they’ll follow us anywhere,” James Terrell told Beneath the Surface News.
James’ great grandfather purchased the farm back in the 1930s.
Today, James oversees the operation that produces beef straight from the family’s land to your dinner table.
Terrell Farms sells halves and quarters, which include everything from melt-in-your-mouth steaks and roasts to brisket and hamburger.
“I’ve got quite a bit of beef available right now and I will deliver it right to your doorstep,” James said. “I don’t know what it is about our hamburger, but our customers say the ground beef is the best they have ever tasted.”
The meat is processed at a plant in Evant where it’s dry-aged for 14 days, vacuum sealed and frozen.
"It’s USDA inspected and ready to put in your freezer for months of enjoyment,” James said.
A quarter beef will yield approximately 80-100 pounds. Prices vary depending on the amount the customer purchases, but ranges between $8 to $10 per pound.
"Some of our steaks have sold for up to $28 a pound in butcher shops,” he said.
It’s not too late to receive an order in time for Christmas.
