Far out, man! Moo-La turns 50 and you’re invited to Stephenville’s groovy downtown celebration.

Moo-La, Stephenville’s beloved fiberglass bovine, has proudly stood on the Erath County courthouse square since 1972, and with her 50th birthday just around the corner, the city is planning a “Back to the 70s” birthday bash on Friday, Sept. 23.

The groovy downtown celebration will kick off with a ceremony and cow parade featuring OSVE Dairy Holsteins at 5 p.m., followed by a host of free goodies like hot dogs and pulled pork sandwiches courtesy of Western Dairy Transport, milk from DairyMAX, milk and cookie pairings by Volleman’s Dairy, T-shirts from TSU’s College of Agriculture and limited-edition colas featuring Moo-La on the label by the Crouch Dairy and Dublin Bottling Works.

(With a limited supply, these goodies could run out so don’t be late!)

Make plans to stick around from 6-9 p.m. for a street dance, live music by The Downtown Fever Band, photo bus and food trucks.

It’s going to be a far out experience you don’t want to miss!

Oh, and like all jive turkeys, feel free to wear your best threads from the 1970s.

STAY TUNED FOR PART TWO: A look back at Moo-La’s storied history and her continued legacy in Erath County will publish Friday on Beneath the Surface News.
