A Stephenville man says he is still in shock over the fact that a song he wrote – “Broken Girl” – is getting some serious traction on the music scene.

Curry Hooks says he began playing guitar during a lonely time in his life.

“I really fell into it by accident,” Curry told Beneath the Surface News.

“I began putting up raw stuff on my TikTok and it got 30,000 views.”

“Broken Girl” was released under the label GE Music Group and surpassed 5,800 Spotify streams within hours of going live and is in rotation in Dallas/Fort Worth on 97.9 The Beat, Star 102.1, Kiss FM, 105.7 KRNB, 100.3 Jack FM, and 102.9 The Mix.

“Curry writes his own lyrics, sings the vocals, plays guitar and builds every arrangement himself, in an indie rock style with a hip-hop edge that is raw and honest,” states a release from GE Music Group.

His follow-up single, "Too Much Thinking Tonight," was released Oct. 9 and three more songs are set to debut next week.

“Broken Girl,” Curry says, is “about getting out of a relationship and the fear of getting hurt again.”
