The Stephenville City Council voted unanimously last week to move forward with building a new City Hall.
Mayor Pro Tem David Baskett told Beneath the Surface News that the city signed an agreement with North 94 Land Development LLC to design the facility.
“It doesn’t tie us to moving forward with it, but it does allow us to start getting site plans and a cost breakdown,” Baskett said.
The current City Hall, located on Washington Street, was built in 1953 and once housed a bank.
“We have outgrown the building and the city is renting space in various locations across town to accommodate city staff,” Baskett said.
“We have people sitting and working in old bank vaults.”
Preliminary plans include building the new facility on city-owned property at City Park.
“But that’s not set in stone,” Baskett said.
Stephenville Mayor Lonn Reisman said continued growth makes this project about more than just a building.
"It represents an investment in our future and a clear vision for the next 20 years," Reisman said.
"This new space will reflect the progress of our community while providing a welcoming, accessible environment designed to better serve our citizens.
"As we look ahead, it positions Stephenville to embrace new opportunities and meet the evolving needs of those we serve."
