A sweet cat unofficially adopted by members of the Stephenville Historical House Museum died after he was struck by a vehicle on Washington Street Tuesday.
“He was an icon for all those that went to the museum or walked the trail,” Stephenville resident Tandi Remy told Beneath the Surface News.
“He was the sweetest homeless cat that loved attention, but preferred to live in the wild.”
Ruby Martinez was Blackie’s main caregiver.
“She made sure he had clean water, canned food and checked on him often,” Tandi said.
Blackie was the inspiration for the Bosque River Trail Pet Facebook page.
“The photos people are posting are so fun,” Tandi said.
“One person got married at the museum and Blackie is in some of the wedding photos.”
Tandi said Blackie loved the attention and special treats he was showered with.
Blackie was buried on the grounds of the Historical House Museum.
“I believe the museum is going to get a headstone, but I think a plaque on the trail would be lovely,” she said.
“He was loved and taken care of by many.”
