Someone Knows by Vi Keeland was a decent thriller I enjoyed, but didn’t love.

I was intrigued from the beginning: Elizabeth, a college English professor, is teaching a creative writing seminar when she reads a story submitted by one of her students.

The first chapter of The Reckoning contains eerily similar details about a murder Elizabeth committed two decades ago to protect her best friend Jocelyn from their abusive English teacher, and she quickly realizes that, well, someone knows.

To try and find the author of The Reckoning, Elizabeth returns to her hometown where she is reunited with a former best friend, alcoholic mother and Noah, a young, charismatic man she has a fling with.

When she discovers that Noah is the son of the man she killed, the storyline got a little too outlandish for my liking.

There were two big twists at the end of this book I never saw coming, and that made up for some of the silliness.

What did you think?

1. Would you recommend this book to someone? Why or why not?

I wouldn’t say this is a summer must-read, but it’s not a waste of time either.

2.  What kind of reader would most enjoy this book?

Someone who enjoys a fast-paced thriller and doesn’t mind a plot that is pretty far out there.

3. Did you enjoy this author’s writing style?

Very much. Vi Keeland knows how to capture and keep a reader’s attention.

4. What was the most satisfying or disappointing part of this story?

The end. It was creepy, but I liked it.

It reminded me of something Freida McFadden would come up with.

5. Rate this book on a scale of 1 to 10.

 I give it a 7.
