Layne Lewis inside Stephenville's newest boutique, Tru Spirit Collective.

Layne Lewis first began selling a unique collection of women’s western wear out of a vintage trailer she calls “Norma.”

She and Norma traveled the state, setting up at ranch rodeos and markets, showcasing her unique clothing lines to a growing customer base.

Layne’s love of fashion, however, had her dreaming of bigger things.

“I believe that everything happens for a reason and my goal was always to have a store front,” Layne told Beneath the Surface News.

That dream became a reality in a matter of just two weeks late last year when she noticed a “for rent” sign in front of a vacant suite next to Pulido’s in Stephenville.

“I called the number, got the information and thought, ‘Let’s do this,’” Layne said.

So she did.

After a fresh coat of paint, Tru Spirit Collective opened in November 2021, just as the holiday shopping season was getting underway.

Today, the boutique is brimming with what Layne calls “eclectic, edgy western clothing” for women.

“I’m all about the fit and style,” she said. “I try to carry small brands by people I can build relationships with.

“You will find a lot of things here that you can’t find anywhere else because of the limited quantities. I like unique pieces and I try to keep as much vintage stock as possible.”

Inside the well-lit, cheerful store, customers will find jewelry by Turquoise West Co. as well as authentic sterling silver and turquoise Native and handmade pieces.

She also carries Old Gringo and Pendleton boots, jeans, shirts, jackets, skirts, leather handbags and a vast selection of wild rags.

There’s also a unique gift section that includes western cards and stationary, coffee mugs, vintage Kilim pillows and candles, face mist, bath soaks and herbal steams made by Urban Sage Goods.

When she is not helping customers, you can find Layne and her husband chasing their young son and daughter or roping at an arena.

Tru Spirit Collective is open from 11 a.m.- 6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and by appointment-only on Wednesday.

The boutique is located at 809 East Road (suite C) in Stephenville.
