Details of what transpired inside a home in Stephenville where a man was shot and killed are outlined in an arrest warrant that charges a 20-year-old woman with manslaughter.

According to a copy of the arrest warrant obtained by Beneath the Surface News, the Stephenville Police Department responded to a call in the 300 block of S. Lillian Ave. shortly before midnight on April 3.

The call referenced a male subject, later identified as 23-year-old Devonte Johnson of Maine, suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

When police arrived, they found two other people inside the home; one identified as 20-year-old Lorena Miranda, who has been charged with manslaughter and manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance.

She is being held at the Erath County Jail on a combined $550,000 bond.

The following is a condensed version of the arrest warrant.

“Devonte had been visiting as a guest when Lorena showed Devonte a handgun that she was using for protection.

“Lorena said she had picked the gun up off the bed and turned toward Devonte to show the gun to him.

“Lorena said as she turned toward Devonte with the gun in her hand, the gun fired, and the shot struck Devonte in the left side of his neck.”

Lorena Miranda claims the shooting was accidental.

Police also discovered cocaine inside a desk in the bedroom and learned that the gun was reportedly stolen from Killeen.
