Who tore up the soccer fields? A $1K reward offered for information on who’s responsible.

Someone gained access to the Stephenville soccer complex this past weekend and damaged nearly all 16 fields.

The Stephenville Soccer Association is offering a reward for information on the people responsible for tearing up the fields.

Board president Flipper Taylor told Beneath the Surface News that the damaged fields were discovered on Sunday, just before games were getting ready to start.

“Whoever did this pretty much got on every field and did donuts on them,” he said. “The gates to the complex were locked, but they hopped a curb and managed to get through an opening.”

The Soccer Association is offering a $500 reward and Cotton Patch has offered an additional $500 for information that leads to an arrest in the case.

“We want to find out who did this,” Taylor said. “We have a big tournament scheduled in June so we will need to get the fields fixed soon.”

About 600 local youth use the 16 soccer fields each week at the Stephenville complex, and the soccer association works hard to keep registration fees low so more kids can afford to play.

The incident has been reported to the Stephenville Police Department.

“We are the City of Champions and we work hard to make sure our kids have a great place to play soccer,” Taylor said. “To see this happen is hard to swallow.”
