What to buy and where to celebrate with your sweetheart this Valentine’s Day.

This custom-made platter is $75 at Littlejohn Produce.

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and you don’t want to be caught empty-handed or without a nice place to take your sweetheart when it arrives on Feb. 14.

To ensure your celebration is a lovely one, I spoke with several local business owners who have given me some fantastic ideas that will earn you a few extra hearts during this season of love

Remember, shop local and love big.

WHERE TO BUY FLOWERS

Scott’s Flowers on the Square: Already fully stocked with farm fresh flowers, Scott’s has 2,000 roses that are set to be some of the prettiest available.

“We use a seven-step process while caring for our roses to ensure they have every advantage for an incredible vase life for our customers,” co-owner James Kimbel said.

Scott’s also has a cuddly line of Gund plush animals, handmade chocolates and blooming plants.

Place your orders now. The team at Scott’s will be making deliveries through Saturday, Feb. 13.

LOVELY GIFT IDEAS

Frames Etc: This downtown boutique has an eclectic selection of gift ideas that will make your sweetheart swoon. She will love Simplified soaps and lotions and you can never go wrong with a candle.

But this time of the year, owner Julie Lowrance specializes in something else: Gift baskets.

Think popcorn, fudge, chocolate covered nuts, Dublin Bottling Works drinks and exotic jerky.

“Our baskets start at $20,” Julie told me. “Give us a budget and we will fix you up!”

WINE AND DINE

If your Valentine’s Day includes a celebratory toast (and it should), you’re in luck.

Two of my favorite local hot spots are celebrating V-Day all weekend long next week.

HEARSAY WINE BAR: Enjoy a glass of wine or champagne flight on a cozy couch by the fireplace at this gorgeous place. All bottles of champagne will be 20% off Thursday through Sunday.

And here’s something else: Joey Green will perform live from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12.

LUCKY VINES VINEYARD AND WINERY: Celebrate love with a glass (or three) of this local vineyard’s award-winning wines along with something extra special: A dessert board featuring Wiseman Chocolates.

There will also be live music by Jacob Armitage from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13.

CHEESE AND CHOCOLATE

Littlejohn Produce: Let the talented folks at Littlejohn Produce create a delicious basket full of chocolates, candy, cookies, cakes and fruit – all beautifully packaged and made to order just the way you want it.

Meat and cheese platters, charcuterie boards with added Valentine’s Day touches are also available.

If you can dream it, Sherri Littlejohn can make it. Give her a call at 254-842-4260.
