Voters overwhelmingly pass Proposition A, paving the way for liquor sales in Erath County.

Erath County residents will soon be able to purchase liquor locally after voters on Tuesday overwhelmingly backed Proposition A.

The measure passed with 2,655 voting “for” alcohol sales and 935 voting against it.

Passing Prop A ends the need for private club permits and paves the way for places like Spec’s Wine, Spirits & Foods and Total Wine & More to open in Erath County.

Brady and Lisa Pendleton, owners of Hearsay Wine Bar, and Court Cole, owner of Bull Nettle Sports Bar, were behind the year-long effort to get the measure before voters.

They worked with John Hatch, a consultant with Texas Petition Strategies of Austin, who led the petition drive and campaign.

“I’m happy for the whole county,” Court told Beneath the Surface News following Tuesday’s election results. “It’s good for our established businesses and will no doubt bring in new restaurants because they will no longer have to deal with an old, antiquated loophole.

“It’s 2021; it's time.”
