The number of new, active cases of Covid-19 drops across area; hospitalizations remain steady.

The number of new cases of Covid-19 appear to be significantly lower than in past weeks.

On Wednesday, Erath County officials reported 29 new cases, bringing the number of active cases to 311.

For weeks, that number has been holding steady well above 400.

Of the current active cases, 185 are in Stephenville, 59 in Dublin and 67 in the county.

There are 18 current local hospitalizations.

Here are the latest numbers broken down by age and gender:

Female – 170

Male - 141

0-12 years - 39

13-19 years - 21

20-29 years - 69

30-39 years – 58

40-64 years – 90

65+ years - 34

I asked Stephenville’s health authority Dr. Kelly Doggett about the trend and if he is seeing more patients choosing to get vaccinated.

“The numbers are fluctuating some, but are still very high,” Doggett told Beneath the Surface News. “I don’t have hard data, but I’m still seeing lines of people waiting to get vaccinated at pharmacies.”
