Manuel Remy just might be the most interesting man in Erath County.
Not only does he race motorcycles competitively, he’s a professional tree climber.
Here’s another fun fact: His birthday is on May 16.
Manuel and his wife Tandi own and operate Remy Tree Service, and she’s the one who let the cat out of the bag about his birthday.
“As you watch him trim trees, you can feel his passion for its health,” Tandi told Beneath the Surface News.
“Then you get to see the sage experience as he artistically creates beauty using the knowledge that he has been fortunate enough to gather from around the world.”
Tree trimming is Manuel’s first career choice, but his passion for MotoTrials runs a close second.
Many of his clients from Remy Tree Service know that Manuel competes with motorcycles, but not too many know the extent of the competitions.
Manuel competes on a Montesa Repsol, imported from Europe.
“Some of the obstacles in the courses look like you would have to defy gravity to go up them,” Tandi said.
“The name of the game in MotoTrials is balance.
“The obstacles are set up by a team of experts and designed to travel over, up, down and around the side of a steep hill – without ever putting your feet on the ground.
“And there’s no seat, so they can’t sit down. The sport is for those who want to take balance to an extreme.
“I often joke that Manuel uses tree climbing as a way to stay in shape for his motorcycle competitions.”
Some of Manuel’s notable accomplishments include:
2021 - qualifying as a Master Rider for the Presidents Cup
2022 - taking a spot on the podium at the NATC Nationals in New Mexico
2023 - crowned the Texas State Series Expert Champion and winning the Texas Summer Series in the Expert class
2024 - taking the podium at the NATC Nationals in Colorado.
