The iconic Scott’s Flowers on the Square is ready for the holidays. And it's beautiful.

Scott’s Flowers on the Square has been an iconic downtown business for more than 40 years, but when I met with owners Darren Carpenter and James Kimbel on a recent fall-ish afternoon, I was surprised by what I didn’t know about this charming business.

The first thing someone might notice about Scott’s is its curb appeal.

Attractively anchored on the corner of College Street directly across from the courthouse, its towering windows are now filled with holiday décor that hints at the beauty of what’s inside.

Once you enter, you will quickly realize this isn’t your ordinary flower shop.

In addition to gorgeous flower arrangements, you’ll discover other unique finds like eclectic home décor, lamps and extraordinary Thanksgiving and Christmas decorations.

Both Darren and James grew up in Stephenville and have owned Scott’s Flowers for the past 15 years.

Today, their downtown location is as iconic as the business they own and operate.

ALL THOSE FLOWERS

Flowers, of course, reign supreme at Scott’s.

But don’t expect the ordinary.

The four lead designers including Michelle Trinque and Ty Ann Smith have more than 30 years of experience each and are known for their unique creations.

“We are passionate about our fresh designs,” James told Beneath the Surface News. “We take pride and put a lot of extra care into having beautiful flowers that last a long time.”

The focus, now, of course, is on the holiday season.

“We love the holidays and fall is our favorite,” James said. “We love fall colors and textures and helping people celebrate.”

And when it comes to those holiday centerpieces, the designers at Scott’s work closely with customers to create the perfect look to enhance their holiday theme.

“We have found that people really like the ‘familiar’ during the holidays; things that feel like home,” James said, adding that the traditional green and red associated with Christmas remain fan favorites.

And for those whose holiday wish list includes a little help decking their halls for the season, you’re in luck.

From exquisite Christmas trees to full holiday décor, the team of designers at Scott’s can transform your home into the winter wonderland of your dreams.

INTERIOR DESIGN OPTIONS

Another thing you might know about Scott’s Flowers is that they offer interior decorating services.

Darren heads up that part of the business and works closely with clients who want a thoughtful home makeover or just need a little freshening up.

“Experience, longevity and our interior design items are what make us unique,” Darren said. “We have an eclectic, high quality collection of home décor that allows us to give our clients a curated look.”

“This is a chance for us to thank our customers and unveil our holiday décor to the public,” James said.
